Description
This instrument was made around 1926. C Melody saxophones were originally intended for amateur musicians. This of course was before television etc. People would want to play their saxophone with friends and family around the piano or with other instruments pitched in the key of C without having to sight transpose the sheet music of the day. The instrument went out of fashion in the late 1920s but in recent times it has been popular with collectors and players interested in more unusual instruments. In fact, some manufacturers are now making new C melody saxes again. There is something to be said for vintage however. This silver plated instrument is physically in good condition and will celebrate its 100th birthday in about four years time. It plays well and comes with the mouthpiece used for the screw in tuning system. Come and try it at The Saxophone Shop in the West End of Glasgow.
