Description

Michel Colombier (May 23, 1939 - November 14, 2004) was a composer, songwriter, arranger and conductor.
Born in Lyon, France, his early musical interest was in jazz and improvisation, and in his teenage years he began performing with small combos and big bands.

His first major Musical Directorship saw him arranging for Charles Aznavour's first album in English for release in the USA, and this led to him becoming MD for Petula Clark. Continuing on from this he worked with, and influenced, many artists including Herb Alpert, Quincy Jones, Roberta Flack, Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Neil Diamond, Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Madonna.

Colombier scored the music for more than 100 feature and television films, and was a Grammy and Academy Award winner for the Prince film Purple Rain.

His many solo albums include the self-titled 1979 release Michel Colombier, which was re-issued in CD form in 1999. Included on this album was the track Dreamland, featuring legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius (of Weather Report fame), accompanied by the London Symphony Orchestra and many other famous-name session musicians.
